If you want to experience the quirkiness of San Francisco, come and check out the Bay To Breakers race on Sunday, May 20th. It is a quintessential San Francisco experience for over 100 years. The race is part of the city and is a true reflection and celebration of life between the breakers and the Bay.
It is an extremely popular race held every year in San Francisco, California on the 3rd Sunday of May. The name of the race comes from the fact that the event begins near the “bay,” a couple of blocks from The Embarcadero on the San Francisco Bay, and ends at the “breakers,” which is the term used to describe the waves breaking onto Ocean Beach. And yes, into the ocean! The Bay To Breakers route is 7.46 miles, 12.01 km, You’ll see a variety of costumes (some nudity) with the racers and the crowd.
For 24 years, from 1986 to 2010, the Bay To Breakers race was the world’s biggest footrace with over 110,000 people participating each year.
